If you’re like me and can’t imagine taking a trip without your dog, you're probably always on the lookout for places that welcome your four-legged companion with open arms. Whether you're into beach vibes, city adventures, or scenic walks, the U.S. is full of dog-friendly destinations.

Here are my top five places to visit with your fur babies, including some personal favourites and tips for making the most of your trip.

1. Nashville, TN

If there’s one thing I know about Nashville, it’s that this city loves dogs. Whether you're strolling down the vibrant streets of downtown or enjoying live music at a local park, dogs are part of the culture here.

One of my absolute favourite spots with Pearl is at Tail Wagging Tuesdays, hosted by the Nashville Sounds minor league baseball team. There’s a whole dog section where your pups can hang out, play, and even catch the game with you! It's such a joyful atmosphere—dogs wagging their tails, and everyone is happy to have them around.

There are also numerous dog-friendly patios around town, so you can grab a bite while your dog enjoys the fresh air.

2. Destin, FL

If you're more of a beach person, Destin, Florida is a must-visit, especially if you’re staying at Sandestin Resort. Not only is it beautiful, with its white sand beaches and clear waters, but it’s also incredibly welcoming to dogs.

The resort offers dog-friendly accommodations, and the surrounding area is full of fun for both you and your pet. There are plenty of pet-friendly restaurants where you can sit outside with your dog, and the free bike rentals allow you to explore with your pup in tow.

Plus, with the warm climate, your dog will love a dip in the pool or a scenic walk around the resort’s trails. Just keep in mind, not all beaches in Destin are dog-friendly, so make sure to check local regulations before letting your dog loose.

3. Orlando, FL

When most people think of Orlando, theme parks come to mind. But beyond the roller coasters and Mickey Mouse, Orlando offers some great dog-friendly hotels. It is such a fantastic base for a pet-friendly vacation.

A few really cool places to stay include the Aloft Orlando Downtown, where they offer dog beds and even doggy treats upon arrival.

Another great spot is the Four Seasons Resort Orlando, which goes above and beyond for dog owners. They offer everything from food bowls, to pet-friendly menus and even a list of on site and offleash parks if you are hungry for a little adventure.

While some areas may require you to keep your dog on a leash, the many dog-friendly parks and open spaces around the city make it easy to explore with your furry friend.

4. Milwaukee, WI

For those who love cooler weather and scenic lakefronts, Milwaukee is an excellent dog-friendly destination. The city’s Lakefront area is particularly beautiful. There are

long stretches of walking paths where you can enjoy the views of Lake Michigan with your dog by your side.

One of my favorite things about Milwaukee is how many parks allow off-leash areas for dogs, including Estabrook Park, where your dog can play and socialize with others.

During the warmer months, Milwaukee also hosts several pet-friendly events and festivals, where you can bring your dog along to experience the local culture. From dog-friendly patios to breweries, Milwaukee is full of places that welcome dogs as part of the family.

5. Washington, DC

Last but not least, Washington, DC offers a mix of historic charm and urban convenience for dog owners. Although the biggest challenge here is finding enough green space for your dog to do their business, there are still plenty of great parks to explore.

The National Mall is one of the most iconic places to visit, and it’s open for leashed dogs to stroll alongside you as you take in the monuments and museums.

For more fun, Rock Creek Park is a massive green space with trails that allow your dog to roam and explore nature although you may need a leash. Be sure to also check out the Eastern Market, where some vendors are pet-friendly for a fun weekend outing.
